Coming off of a career high, Joseph Altuzarra sets his sights on brandwide expansion, and with a bright future ahead, he envisions not just dollar signs—his award was received with a large $300,000 grant—but light, fluttering dresses and tropical patterned footwear to match. The Parisian designer made his way through famed fashion houses like Proenza Schouler and Givenchy after graduating from Swarthmore College in 2005; today, he contemplates the discrepancies between New York style and DC’s seemingly more conservative approach to dressing. “The DC client has a high taste level in luxury womenswear and a great fashion sense: She is powerful, confident, and sexy, which defines the Altuzarra woman. That’s the kind of characteristic that makes DC such an interesting market for us. I love Huma Abedin. I think she is so chic and beautiful. I would suggest a white eyelet dress from our resort collection for her, because I think she would look so fresh and pretty. Once spring comes around, all women want is lightness and color. Our resort collection is filled with flirty, sexy dresses in pastels and whites, which I think will be perfect for spring. We referenced the style of the Côte d’Azur and St-Tropez, and especially the propensity for eyelet. I love the idea of eyelet for spring: It’s feminine, sexy, but also quite innocent.” Relish, 3312 Cady’s Alley NW, 202- 333-5343
