Designer Brett Johnson has come a long way from embellishing his own Nike Air Force One sneakers to becoming a full-fledged fashion designer. Recently, the local favorite presented his third collection during New York Fashion Week: Men’s. Over the last two seasons, Johnson showed his looks in presentation form. However, as if a nod to his increasing growth in the fashion industry, this current collection was shown as a full runway show.
While Johnson’s past collections have seen inspiration from the west, this time his vision stayed closer to home. For FW17, the designer opted to visit Virginia’s majestic Blue Ridge Mountains. The blues and greens found in the mountain’s landscape form the basis for the color palette in this collection as the accent colors of taupes, yellows, and bold reds pay homage to the beautiful sun as it sets over the mountain range.
The Brett Johnson Collection is known for its elevated casual wear and this collection continues the tradition with the use of luxury fabrics combined with innovative textile techniques and craftsmanship. Outerwear, which is the foundation of the BJC line, is the strong point in the collection. Highlights included the mixed media pieces like the chevron bomber and the field coat, as well as the lambskin aviator with nutria collar. These statement jackets will be hits come Fall.
