Lilly Pulitzer—known for its colorful dresses, tunics, and accessories—has opened its very first store in Virginia at Tysons Galleria. Think detailed dressing rooms (complete with patterned walls and brightly upholstered furniture), inviting design, and, of course, the whimsical offerings that are the store’s hallmark.
The location was a well-planned move for the brand. “It is absolutely an exciting opportunity for us—we love Virginia,” says Michelle Kelly, Lilly Pulitzer’s senior vice president of merchandising, marketing, and retail. “We saw a demand in Virginia and the elevated reputation of the Tysons customer is a perfect match for our brand. We also have some fun history rooted in the DC/Virginia area. Jackie Kennedy was an old schoolmate and dear friend of Lilly Pulitzer. When Jackie wore her Lilly shift on the cover of LIFE magazine in 1963, the brand ‘took off like ‘ZINGO’ as Lilly says.”
Venture inside to see why it’s a fun place to shop (and even host events), while celebrating the brand’s 2013 theme of “Life’s a Party, Dress Like It.” “The spring 2013 collection brings dresses in print and color to celebrate every special occasion, from casual beach parties to cocktails by the pool,” explains Janie Schoenborn, vice president of creative communications. “As usual, Lilly is exploding with florals, fresh resort stripes, custom patterns and hidden Lilly critters (of course!).”
Special to the Tysons location, find a custom-designed Virginia state print Murfee scarf. “The print captures quintessential Virginia things—crabs and sandcastles from the Eastern Shore, dogwoods, cardinals, the Blue Ridge Mountains, sailboats in the Chesapeake Bay, Monticello, and so much more,” adds Schoenborn. “Did you know we hide the word ‘Lilly’ in every print? You’ll have to stop by the new store to come find it!” 1807G International Drive, McLean, 703-564-4301
