The epitome of feminine and flirty style, Erin Fetherston is making a stop at Tysons Galleria this Saturday to introduce her ERIN spring 2012 collection and dish out expert styling tips. Here, the designer gives us her spring fashion forecast.
What was the inspiration for your spring line?
ERIN FETHERSTON: For spring, I took inspiration from the 1960s. A photograph of Mia Farrow at Truman Capote's 1966 Black and White Ball was the launching point for the collection. I explored clean, modern silhouettes and the butterfly became a key motif in our print story. I embraced bright pop colors that are great for spring and summer, creating a collection of easy-to-wear pieces that are fresh and playfully chic.
What’s your favorite trend this spring?
EF: I fell in love with all the bright, saturated colors for spring. In my own collection I embraced vivid, bold hues, like popsicle pink and tangerine to update my signature color palette of ivory, blush, black, and navy. I was also interested in mixing prints and color blocking. The butterfly-print pants and shorts are some of my favorite pieces in the spring collection.
What are your tips for transitioning a look from day to night?
EF: It's all about the shoes. What I love about my dresses is that they are feminine and modern, but most importantly, they're versatile. During the day, you can pair any of my dresses with a classic ballet flat or sandals. Throw on a pair of heels to dress the look up for evening.
Which of your new spring pieces would you recommend to Washington women?
EF: When people ask me for one piece, I like to go more classic. That’s where you get the long-term wear. I would go with a little black dress. I love our chiffon overlay shirtdress. It's a great transitional style that appeals to many different body types. You can dress it up or dress it down. Pair it with a cardigan to go into the office, or put on high heels for a night on the town. I also love our V-neck cardigan with lace overlay in black or white. It can be worn so many different ways and looks great over a dress.
