Hosted by L'Enfant Society and The Trust for the National Mall, this year's Ball on the Mall will be held on the National Mall, and shining against the backdrop of the Washington Monument and the Capitol Dome will require vivid visuals. On the runway this spring, Jil Sander's Raf Simons showed airy ensembles in rich lavender and green, creating a crisp style that floats around the body with whimsy and ease. Nancy Pearlstein of local boutique Relish (3312 Cady's Alley NW, 202-333-5343) declares this look her winner for the Ball on the Mall. "I love the colors used in this dress; the rich, saturated greens and purples look fresh and spring-like. The silhouette also adds a newness with the transparent full skirt and the fitted jacket. It is sensual in an unexpected way." Consider geometric accessories in jewel-tone accents to add dimension to solid or subdued dresses. Gucci's black and gold crocodile sandal lends an air of sophistication to the otherwise fanciful look.
