A True Holiday Home
I’m not going to lie: When I lived in Las Vegas, there was very little to get excited about around holiday time. What with the lack of greenery, the perpetual warm weather, the never-changing casino interiors and the general absence of fireplaces, mistletoe and the need for hot cocoa, it took a hearty effort to get jazzed about Santa. Washington, however, is a veritable bonanza of the good stuff. From the national Christmas tree to The Nutcracker at The Warner Theatre and endless options for New Year’s soirées, we can truly indulge in this most wonderful time of year in a very traditional, familiar and incredible way.
In this issue, we got more than a little inspired about the gift-giving season here in our fair city, and hopefully, our 10-page guide to goodies will have something for everyone on your list. If it’s holiday cuisine you seek, food writer Walter Nicholls checks in with five local chefs about what tempts their seasonal palates. Set the perfect party table with event guru André Wells, and meet the next generation of rising philanthropic stars, pros at giving year-round. See the latest in wrapping paper and craft-beer collecting, and study up on how to avoid dating snafus. And, of course, we visit with our cover girl, actress Kerry Washington, one of Hollywood’s smart and stunning stars du jour.
From all of us here at Capitol File, have a happy, healthy and fashionably fabulous holiday season. May you get what is on your list, give to your heart’s content and toast 2011 with the ones you love. That’s my plan, anyway...
